Herbert McNulty is nine years old and lives a quiet life in South West London with his father Edward, his loyal dog Douglas, and his rather peculiar stepmother.
Then, one ordinary afternoon, Herbert finds something he was never supposed to see. Something hidden. Something that doesn't add up. And once he starts pulling at the thread, he can't stop.
Soon Herbert is swept into a shadowy world he didn't know existed: a place of coded messages, double identities, and a brand new underground agency known only as the S.E.S.
With nothing but his wits, his dog, and a few highly questionable gadgets, Herbert must race across cities, dodge people who would rather he vanished, and find out the truth before someone else gets there first.
